WeP Panchayat across India
Resellers across India interact with WeP closely!
Bangalore, December 29th, 2008: WeP Peripherals, India’s leading Peripherals Company is interacting with resellers closely by conducting “WeP Panchayat” extensively across India.
WeP is connecting with resellers through “Panchayat” in various locations in India. Panchayat is an ongoing programme launched to build relationship with resellers. Unlike a reseller meet “Panchayat” aims to bring together few partners in a given location. The invitees are selected resellers around 10 numbers to a maximum of 20. WeP team spends a quality 3-4 hrs with the selected invitees over lunch or dinner and connects with them on latest products; information on the company, their concerns, offering support and value adds their business in terms of sales.
Ashok Dash, National Sales Head says, “Its an excellent way to connect with channel partners. In a smaller group the interactions are very effective with each participant. The time spent with the partners is very qualitative, which otherwise do not happen in bigger programmes. It helps WeP to be acquainted with the ground realities at the remotest places in the market, identify areas of improvement at the same time connecting with partners to do their bit for WeP’.
Suresh, CEO of Crest & Co., Chandigarh says, “It surely was an information led activity and we would request WeP to conduct such events often. This helps us in building relationship with WeP at the same time enhancing relationship with our secondary partners”.
George Thomas, of Xpertiz Services & Consultants, Kottayam says, “In my 14 years of association with WeP, I feel “WeP Panchayat” is one of best platforms created to connect with partners. Especially during the current market scenario, we consider it a highly motivational factor. Panchayat is being organized in the interior parts of Kerala helping the resellers from smaller towns to connect with us.
WeP team have been literally living out of suitcases to ensure WeP Panchayat is conducted successfully at least 4-6 times in a week in each location. From July 2008, WeP has successfully conducted “139 Panchayat” in 121 Locations in India and is still going strong. WeP Panchayat is emerging to be a strong platform for WeP to introduce the new offerings like Retail and POS to the market place. The responses from the market place are very encouraging.

It is a strategic tie-up that was formed due to the eco-friendliness of the

services to its customers.
Speaking at the occasion, the CEO & MD,
WeP Peripherals Ltd., Mr. Ram N Agarwal said, “Right from the word go, “Green”
is the word that is key to all of WeP Peripheral’s initiatives, be it bringing
out Green Consumable products, conforming to RoHS (Restrict the use of

management and hence the tie-up with Reva was apparent as another step towards
the Green Cause from WeP”.
Mr. Sandeep Maini, Chairman of the Maini
Group speaking on behalf of RECC said, “We are proud to partner with WeP on
this initiative for the environment, both REVA & WeP are companies who are
very environment conscious and take initiatives to ensure that we protect our

& greener.
As an Electronic manufacturer, WeP is highly
environment conscious, and is aware of its responsibilities towards managing
the increasing amount of Electronic waste in India. Earlier, WeP formulated a
GREEN strategy to enter into remanufacturing of IT Hardware products and has

in the environment. In addition to this, they have entered into an agreement to
give their waste to the only Pollution Control Board authorized e-waste
recycler in India.

“Mirambika School for the New
Age” bags the Champion’s trophy at the
WeP Peripherals hosted
‘Green Dreamz 2008’
Bangalore, 31st January 2008: “Mirambika
School for the New Age” won the Champion’s trophy at the one-day Inter-school
competitive event on E-waste management – ‘GREEN DREAMZ 2008’, organised by WeP
Peripherals, India’s leading IT Peripherals Company along with Saahas, a
voluntary organisation working with issues related to solid waste.
With about 10 members from each school
enrolled for it, there were around 150 school children along with teachers from
leading schools in Bangalore who participated in the event.
The Green Dreamz 2008 on the theme of “E-waste
Management” started with a Recycling Art competition wherein
students were given a chance to create recycled art pieces from e-waste like
CDs, batteries and floppies. Then they had the Thematic Treasure Hunt followed
by Theme presentations where the teams were given 10 minutes each to
present in any form, on “E-waste Management”. The teams had complete freedom to
select the mode of presentation and this varied from a skit to a collage of
various pictures to a song, play etc.
The winners for the above-mentioned
competition were:
1. Mirambika School for the New Age, for
Theme Presentation
2. St. Joseph Boys High School for Treasure
Hunt
3. Baldwin’s Girls High School for Recycling
Art Competition
WeP Peripherals has always supported the
cause for e-waste management and was among the first Indian exporters to get
RoHS certification that insists on environment friendliness in electronic
equipment. WeP’s Green product range is all about reuse of consumables.
Mr. Ram N Agarwal, CEO & MD, WeP
Peripherals Ltd, who was present at the occasion said, “We as a company are
committed towards an eco-friendly, cost effective and satisfactory E-waste
management system for Bangalore. Our green range of products are the first of
its kind recycled electronic products. The overwhelming response from the
students is one step towards the realization of our goal. It’s been WeP’s
endeavor to raise awareness about safe disposal of e-waste and e - recycling
and to make children eco consultants.”
In addition to such initiatives, WeP has been
collecting e-waste by placing e- bins at key locations in Bangalore. E-waste
collected is sent to the authorised recycler for safe disposal. We have around
150 collection centers in schools, colleges, offices, apartments and commercial
establishments in Bangalore.
A recent study reveals that near 3.3 lakh tons
of e-waste is generated annually in India, while an additional 0.5 lakh ton is
illegally imported into the country. However, only 0.19 lakh tons of this is
recycled in the country due to poor awareness and insufficient recycling
infrastructure. Currently e-waste recycling remains concentrated in the
informal sector, which due to poor processing technologies and very small
capacities, contributes significantly to pollution and environmental
degradation. It is estimated that e-waste generated in India will touch 4.7
lakh metric tons by 2011.
Mr. Henning, Consultant, e-Parisara, Mr.
Andreas, Consultant, EMPA, Rohit Jayakaran & Rajesh, Radio Jockey, Fever
104 and Mr. Jayant Gundewar, CSO, WeP Peripherlas were the judges for the
event. For both recycled art competition and theme presentations, the
parameters considered were concept behind the design, creativity and the
presentation.
About Green Dreamz 2008:
Green Dreamz started a week ago with a
day’s visit for the students to India’s first authorized E-waste Recycling
facility in Karnataka. Based on the visit, the students were then quizzed and
contests were held on safe e-waste disposal in the schools for the entire week.
For this the materials and prizes were sponsored by the organizers and were
given away to the winners in each of the schools.
WeP Peripherals is organising this event in
partnership with Saahas, a voluntary organisation working with issues related
to solid waste. The WeP – Saahas partnership has been working towards creating
awareness and setting up practical measures towards safe disposal of e-waste
generated in households and offices.

WeP rolls out RoHS compliant Products to
European Market
Adheres to European directive on the
restriction of hazardous substances
Bangalore, 21st July 2006: WeP
Peripherals a leading IT Peripherals products and solution company has started
manufacturing RoHS complaint printers, the first shipment was recently
dispatched to Europe. WeP has been exporting its Printers to European market
since 2001 and has been in the forefront of conformance with Environmental
Legislations adopted by the EU. Alarmed by the increasing risk to human health
and environment by use of hazardous substances in Electronic items, the EU
enacted the directive on RoHS.
RoHS is an acronym for Restrict
the use of Hazardous S
ubstance. The hazardous substances are Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent,
Chromium, Polytrominated Biphenyls and Polybrominated Diphenyl Esters. This
directive is in force from July 2006 and similar legislation is expected in
countries like USA, Japan and China. WeP is targeting compliance with RoHS
directive requirement over its product lines.
There is no similar mandatory provision in
Indian laws even though the dangers are prevalent here also. WeP's challenges
are largely on raising awareness and compliance amongst suppliers/vendors and
finding recognized laboratories to certifying the components. WeP sells
Printers and Printer heads in China and has obtained the CCC Certification
relevant for China. WeP also sells its Printers in various countries of Asia,
Middle East and Africa.
According to Mr. Ram N Agarwal, CEO & MD,
WeP Peripherals, "In addition to complying with the RoHS standards, WeP is
working to bring awareness on e-waste. Recently, WeP sponsored a major
incentive and set up e-waste collection centers in prime locations, where
Bangaloreans can dispose used batteries, CDs & Floppies in specially

WeP and Saahas battle on to create awareness
on e-waste
E-waste bins ramped up for World Environment
Day! - Contest with Holiday Package for citizens turning up with maximum
kilograms of e-waste
WeP Peripherals a leading IT Peripherals
Products and solutions company, along with Saahas a Bangalore based voluntary
organisation working on problems related to solid waste management, had
initiated a collection system for e-waste products like dry cell batteries, CDs
and floppies on April 22nd Earth Day. Celebrating the success of the programme,
the campaign is being ramped up to celebrate World Environment Day.
Around 80 kgs (5,000 dry cell batteries, 600
floppies and 900 CDs) of material has been collected from different collection
centers around the city. This quantity is less than 1% of the actual amount
that Bangalore throws out every month - a 2004 estimate puts it at 4,00,000
batteries per month.
Says Deepak Chari, GM - Finance &
Business Development-WeP Peripherals, "WeP is committed to promoting proactive
and innovative measures towards e-waste management. Although systemizing safe
disposal methods for e-waste is essential, we should look at measures, which
restrict the content of this hazardous material at the manufacturing stage
itself. Measures like RoHS (an European Union standard for electronic products
- Restriction on Hazardous Substance) are the way forward for the industry."
Europe and USA have made it a top priority to
collect and recycle e-waste in a safe manner and recycle more than 50% of it,
in contrast India is only opening its account with Bangalore becoming the first
Indian city to set up a collection system for these products.
Says Wilma Rodrigues, Saahas "Residents need
to start storing and then disposing their dry cell batteries, floppies and CDs
in a collection center. It frightens to think of lakhs of dry cells that are
thrown away along with regular municipal solid waste. A single battery contains
heavy metals. When burnt or thrown into a dumpsite -the contents of these
batteries vaporize or leach into the ground. This is a real threat to our
families and future generations."
Success Stories:
The initial collection has been modest but
the fact remains that this collection system is an answer for many concerned
residents. Says Mrs Tiwari, "My husband and I were most happy to see the
collection box in G.K Vale. We shall definitely use this facility and also
inform our friends and families of this initiative."
"We have already purchased 2 special
collection bins and placed them prominently on our campus. Our employees are
now happy that they have an opportunity to participate and support a safe
recycling of these products." Sylvia Subbaiah, Leader, Texas India Foundation.
"The challenge is that we need to address a
large diffuse mass of people and build awareness and support amongst them.
